Animals commonly seen in the wild
Marine fauna:
Whales, dolphins, herrings, white sturgeons, tuna, eels, rays.
Birds:
Pheasants, pelicans, robins, herons, swans, cuckoos, bitterns, owls, buzzards
Land mammals:
Bears, wolves, lynx, hares, chamois, deer, dormouse, bats, wild cats, wild boar.
Snakes and insects:
Lizards, vipers, beetles, tortoises, Aesculapian snakes, skunks.

You can often witness open trucks on the road carrying sheep, horses, pigs and poultry to the slaughterhouses.
Hunting or poaching:
Hunting is legal in Romania. Common animals hunted are bears, stags, wild boars, roebucks, wolves, lynxes, wild cats, hares and birds.

Milioane de Prieteni(meaning millions of friends), is a bear sanctuary. Visitors and volunteers are welcome.
We have not included the treatment of animals in the meat/fur/leather industries, zoos or circuses, animal testing as it unfortunately still happens in most countries.
