Animals commonly seen in the wild

Marine fauna:

Perch, pikes, sturgeons, eels, carps.

Birds:

Storks, swallows, nightingales, cormorants, owls, wild ducks, gulls, partridges.

Land mammals:

Bears, sheep, wild boars, martens, mouflons, foxes, wolves, elks, roe deer.

Snakes and insects:

Lizards, geckos, chameleons, vipers, grass snakes, sea snakes, beetles.

Common sights you will not like

In the city and
on the road

Horse-drawn carriages are popular among tourists visiting the cities. Stray dogs can be seen on the streets.

In the
Countryside

Horses are commonly used for agriculture and transportations purposes.

Hunting or poaching:

Hunting is allowed in certain seasons. Commonly hunted animals are red and roe deer, wild boars, red stags, wolves and some birds such as pigeons, doves, common pheasants, quails, etc. Endangered animals listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine are protected.

Animal fights:

Animal fights are illegal. Organizing of bear fights has been banned since 2015.

We have not included the treatment of animals in the meat/fur/leather industries, zoos or circuses, animal testing as it unfortunately still happens in most countries.
