Animals commonly seen in the wild

Marine fauna:

Bass, perch and trout (sweet water fish).

Birds:

Cranes, storks, falcons, eagles, owls, wry-necks, ducks, warblers

Land mammals:

Buffaloes, brown hares, red foxes, dormice, marten, badger, wild cat, chamois, bats.

Snakes and insects:

Butterflies, stag beetles, fire salamanders, aesculapian snake, vipers.

Common sights you will not like

In the city and
on the road

Stray dogs and cats can be seen, but not very common. Some markets and stores have aquariums and fish tanks with live seafoods.

In the
Countryside

Animals tied to chains, horseback riding.

Hunting or poaching:

Hunting is legal . In addition to shooting, bow hunting and falconry are legal hunting methods. Common animals hunted are deer, mouflon rams, wild boars and game birds such as pheasants and wild ducks.

Animal fights:

Since 1994, animal fights and keeping, breeding and training of animals for fighting has been banned.
