Commonly served vegan

Dishes that are traditionally served vegan

Sweet rice balls snack with different fillings. Make sure: don't choose the chocolate or other dairy filling.

Tang Yuan 汤圆

Fried wheat bread sticks sold as a snack or for breakfast. Make sure: no milk or egg were used.

You Tiao 油条

Sweet/ savory soybean pudding, can be served with sugar or with soy sauce and chilly. Make sure: No gelatin or shrimp powder is added.

Douhua 豆腐花

Sliced lotus roots filled with rice and served with sweet sugar sauce.

Gui Hua Tang Ou 桂花糖藕

Sweet green glutinous rice ball snack made from mug wort root juice and filled with bean paste.

Qing Tuan 青团

Glutinous rice deep fried breakfast cake. Make sure: no fish or oyster sauce is added.

Ci Fan Gao 糍饭糕

Mushrooms fried with bok choy, cabbage and green vegetables. Make sure: No oyster sauce is used.

Xiang Gu Cai Xin 香菇菜心

“Stinky tofu” fermented tofu with different sauces. Make sure: no oyster sauce or shrimp paste are added.

Chòu Dòufu

Braised wheat gluten with mushrooms, peanuts, soy sauce and ginger, served cold.

Si Xi Kao Fu 四喜烤麸

Stir-fried eggplant, peppers and potato, braised with soy sauce. Make sure: no oyster sauce is used.

Fried shredded green pepper and potato with salt and vinegar.

Qīngjiāo Tǔdòu Sī 青椒土豆絲

Pickled cucumber with garlic, vinegar and sesame oil.

Pai Huang Qua 拍黄瓜

Hot oil noodles - wheat/ rice noodles with chili, spring onion, bok choy, soy sauce, garlic and vinegar.

You Po Mian 油泼扯面

Fried bamboo shoots with ginger, plum wine and soy sauce. Make sure: no oyster sauce is used.

Yóu Mèn Sǔn 油焖笋

Cold cooked spinach salad with soy sauce and sesame. Make sure: no oyster sauce is used.

Liángbàn Bōcài 凉拌菠菜

Tofu and spinach clear soup. Make sure: no meat broth is used.

Qīngcài Dòufu Tang 青菜豆腐汤

Cold broccoli salad with garlic, sesame oil and chili. Make sure: no meat pieces are added.

Liángbàn Xī Lánhuā 凉拌西兰花

Bean starch cold jelly noodles, seasoned with soy sauce.

Liang Fen 涼粉

Hot soybean milk served as a drink or a soup with sweet fried bread.

Dou Jiang 豆浆

Traditional sour plum drink made with licorice root, herbs and sugar.

Dishes that can be Veganized

Dishes that are not vegan by default, but can be made so, by asking to remove or change part of the ingredients.

Wheat noodles cooked with Scallion, soy sauce, pork or shrimp paste. To veganize: ask for no pork or shrimp.

Cong You Ban Mian 葱油拌面

Stir-fried bitter gourd with garlic, soy sauce and fried with egg/ pork. To veganize: ask for no egg or pork.

Qīng Chǎo Kǔguā 清炒苦瓜

Tofu cubes in fermented beans and chili paste, usually served with pork pieces. To veganize: ask for no pork.

Mapo Dòufu 麻辣豆腐

Fried spring rolls filled with cabbage and other vegetables , served with oyster sauce. To veganize: ask for no oyster sauce and no meat.

Chun Juan 蔬菜春卷

Stir fried Napa cabbage with scallion, chili, garlic, soy sauce and oyster sauce. To veganize: Ask for no oyster sauce.

Suan La Bai Cai 酸辣白菜

Fried wheat noodles with vegetables and pork/ beef shreds. To veganize: ask for pork or beef.

Shanghai Chow Mein 上海炒面

Stir fried tofu and vegetables including mushrooms, snow peas and bok choy, in garlic, oyster and soy sauce. To veganize: ask for no chicken stock or oyster sauce.

Hongshao Dofu 红烧豆腐

Stir fried eggplants with sticky spicy sauce, usually served with pork strips. To veganize: ask for no pork.
