A bit about myself and why I became vegan
I am a Taiwanese who lives in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan
I was a vegetarian for 15 years. Because of my mom who became a vegetarian when I was young, I’ve come to think that it’s a good idea that no animals would die because of me. So I decided to follow her diet. And then, due to my understanding that the process of obtaining eggs and milk is also cruel, I became a vegan 5 years ago.
Taiwan is quite a vegan-friendly place. 2 million people are vegetarian. And most vegetarian restaurants also offer vegan food. They don’t always know the difference between vegan and vegetarian. But don’t worry, I will help you. Let’s discover special Taiwanese local food together.
Zhongxiaoeast road and Nanjing east road are two of the most busy areas in central Taipei. There one can many different vegan restaurants as well as vegan bakery shops.
You’ll find many small, thriving vegan communities in the backstreets of Taipei. One of these is especially interesting; the Minsheng Community. It boasts 20 parks, leaf-shaded arteries, stylish restaurants, creative boutiques, and a noticeably slower, quality-oriented cosmopolitan approach to living.
This is where we will concentrate our tour for a deeper, more authentic experience.
Here you can see the delicious food that awaits you on our downtown visit.
**Restaurant is around 20 USD/per meal. If you prefer cheaper venues or street food stales, these are also available but please tell me in advance.
Arguably one of the best night markets in New Taipei City, conveniently located just over the bridge from Taipei City proper in nearby Yonghe District, you can find Lehuaha’s Night Market, a favorite of many residents of the city. Lehuaha integrates the perfect mix of restaurants, snack stalls, shops and entertainment.
