A bit about myself and why I became vegan
Hi, my name is Dr. Shikha Punjabi. I am a 25 year old dental surgeon, born and raised in Mumbai. During the day, I work in the field of clinical research and in the latter half, I am a vegan influencer and blogger.
I am passionate about sharing veganism as far and as wide as possible, so come and join me for a unforgettable vegan tour in Mumbai.
I’m vegan for the animals. In October 2018 I attended the Ahimsa Festival (an all vegan festival) and met the founder of PETA. She addressed a group of curious/transitioning vegans. Her presentation, showcasing an extremely graphic video of the truth behind the dairy and meat industry, moved me to tears. I solemnly vowed to adopt a vegan way of life.
I will take you on a tour to experience some the best vegan street food Mumbai has to offer!
We will start our tour right in the center of my favorite street food area in Mumbai.
You will get to taste and try from a the variety of delicious vegan street foods, including famous Indian staples such as Samosa, Chat salads, dosa, curries alongside new amazingly tasty variations and inventions of new Indian street foods.
We will then continue to a great supermarket located nearby. I will be happy to show and explain about the availability of vegan products in India and how best to the find them. I will show you everything from my favorite vegan milks to snacks and ready-made foods.
We will finish the tour by getting a drink and I will explain a bit more about the local culture and recommend other vegan spots for you to explore in your leisure.

Our tour will start at the farmers’ market at Juhu beach, in my mind one of the best places in Mumbai to shop for the freshest tastiest produce. We will taste some local seasonal fruit together as well as some local tasty vegan street foods from stands along the way.
Our next stop will be a health food store / supermarket, where I will show you how to locate and find vegan products. It does not matter if you are looking for vegan snacks, sweets, plant based milks or other vegan staples, I will show you how to locate them easily, and recommend to you my favorite ones.
Finally we will head to my favorite vegan cafe in Mumbai to have lunch at one of Mumbai’s first and finest vegan café, where I will give you an in depth explanation about being vegan in Mumbai.
I will provide you a list of other destinations I recommend, and you will be able to ask me all your questions there.

I’ve been vegan for close to 2 years now. This journey has been remarkable, humbling and quite introspective.
I’ve lived in Mumbai all my life! So that would be about 25 years. Born and raised Mumbaikar :D
I’m a self declared epicure. To decide just one place would be unfair because I pick my favorites on the basis of loads of variables like ambience, menu variety, crowd, location, service and the food itself. A restaurant that features on the top in all the lists is The Earth Café. It’s my happy place.
It has to be doing activism and outreaches. Spreading the message. Advertising the cause. It brings me immense satisfaction when a non vegan agrees to try the vegan lifestyle. More the merrier.
I became vegan primarily for the animals. I watched one cruelty video and immediately decided to never contribute to the barbarity. But slowly I am learning about the environmental impact and personal health benefits and these have become nearly as important to me.
