Commonly served vegan

Dishes that are traditionally served vegan

Wheat crispy deep fried hollow little balls, filled with potato and onion with spiced tamarind sauce and coriander

Pani Puri

Puffed deep fried indian bread (puri) with spicy potato (aloo) -tomato gravy

Aloo Puri

Traditional lentil stew with turmeric, cumin, garlic, chili among other spices. Make sure: no ghee is used

Dhal Tadka

Deep fried vegetables dipped in lentil flour and cooked until crispy


Steamed rice and lentil batter served with sambar and chutney sauce.


Aloo (potato), Gobi (cauliflower) with local blend of masala spices

Aloo Gobi

Fried or baked wheat dough filled with spiced potatoes, onions and/or peas


A deep fried roll made fermented urad beans batter, can include potatoes, chickpea, onion, curry leaves, chili, ginger and more


Wheat steamed dumplings. Filled with various vegetables such as cabbage, mushroom, spinach, carrots, potato and cilantro

Kebabs – Made of combination of spinach, green peas and potatoes or soya and masala spices

Hara Bhara/ Masala Soya

Chow Mein

Spinach curry with choice of potato, mushroom or peas. Make sure: No ghee or paneer is added

Aloo Jeera

Wheat flatbread filled with lentils, chili and spices

Begun Bhaja

Snack made of peanuts/ sesame/ almonds and jaggery (coconut sugar)


Candy made of ash gourd or white pumpkin, lime juice and sugar


Dishes that can be Veganized

Dishes that are not vegan by default, but can be made so, by asking to remove or change part of the ingredients.

Rice with peas, carrots, green beans and cinnamon spices. To Veganize: Ask to have it made with oil and not ghee

Veg Biryani

Chickpea stew with tomatoes, with masala spices. To veganize: ask to be made with oil instead of ghee

Chana Masala

Fermented rice and lentil batter crepe, filled with spiced potatoes, coconut chutney. To veganize: ask for no ghee


Wheat dough with choices of veg. fillings. To veganize: ask to be made with oil instead of ghee


Potatoes, peppers, cauliflower, green beans,peas, with spices. To veganize: Ask with oil instead of ghee

Veg Bhaji

A stew made of rice, lentils, tomato, onion with turmeric and cumin spices


Dishes that are not vegan, but appear to be.

Dishes that might look vegan, but contain animal products.

This lentil dhal will be made with cream and ghee

Dhal Makhani

This flatbread will be typically made with yogurt


These small bread rolls will contain butter and milk


Puffed fried bread, will contain yogurt/meat


A sweet made of rice and chickpeas that will contain yogurt and/or ghee


This dessert is made of sugar and milk solids

Gulab Jamun

Chickpea flour and sugar based sweets, will contain ghee
