Veganism In Croatia

Being Vegan in Croatia is getting more and more common. According to the latest independent poll conducted by the SPEM Communication Group, over 160,000 of Croatian citizens (3.7% of the population) are vegetarian or vegan. Veganism is more popular in cities than in villages because people in villages keep an ancestral diet based on animal based products.  Although people are mostly omnivores, nobody will condemn you for your choices and they will do their best to cater to your needs.

People will mostly speak English along the coast and in the larger cities such as Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik. Especially those under 40, so it should be fairly easy to explain your vegan preferences. Even so, we recommend to learn a few  Vegan Related Words in Croatian since you never know when these might come in handy along your way. Or rather print them out and take them with you as a backup option.
